In 1891, Edward Canby and Orange O. Ozias, two businessmen from
Dayton, Ohio, purchased the patents for the newly invented computing
scale and incorporated the Computing Scale Company for the production
of commercial scales. Small computing scales with drum like cylinders
and paper charts evolved and fan shaped scales with bowl type pans
were developed for use in weighing spices and candies. These types
of scale are great in today’s marketplace due to the ornate
styles and small sizes, commonly displayed in Kitchens throughout
the world.
